These plays are written to be performed by children in upper elementary grades, ages 8-12, and for a wide variety of circumstances.
Garages or living rooms: performed by a family or neighborhood group of children.
Clubs: performed by a small group of children at a Boys & Girls Club, scouting club, or church group.
Classrooms: performed by a class of 15-25 children.
Do you have an "interesting" mix of children to work with?
Here, you'll find plays designed with useful elements:
* parts that can be performed by the same children playing different roles (5-10 children); or enough parts for every member of a larger group to have a role (10-25 children),
* very few gender roles:
parts can be performed by male or female performers,
no gender references in the plays, ie: "he" or "she",
* simple settings and props,
* performance times generally between 20-40 minutes,
* short lines, easy to remember,
* production information,
* learning activities in various curriculum areas.
Are you interested in children's activities that promote the arts, multi-culturalism, understanding diversity, the importance of family heritage?
Suggested activities encourage children to learn about culture, expressions of culture, and messages of culture.
Each play contains Cultural Learning Notes, which include outreach and participation from cultural groups in your community in various aspects of the play's production.
