Holly began her playwriting career at the age of 16, when she wrote and directed a Christmas play for her church: The Gift. On opening night (actually the only night), she wore a beautiful purple velvet dress that she had sewn herself. The most handsome boy at church -- and at school! -- told Holly he would love to work with her on other projects. She almost swooned! (Well, not really, that's just drama.)
Later, Holly taught music and history at a tiny rural school where she wrote and produced more plays: Kindness is Kind of a Miracle, and Las Posadas.
Finally, in order to become a better writer, Holly combined her love of folktales with her love of plays and tried writing plays based on folktales. To her surprise, they were a lot of fun and people were interested in them. She now writes a play every year.
Holly never did work with that handsome boy, but she secretly hopes to once again wear a purple velvet dress!
